Free Credits to Colourise Video: From Monochrome to Color
Give an existing black-and-white scene a plausible color interpretation. Use APOB AI’s Edit video → Edit style workflow, describe the palette, then compare the people, movement and props before keeping the result.
One café scene, three moments to compare
Our October 20, 2026 test used an original fictional café clip of about five seconds. A woman turns toward a rainy window; a cup and envelope remain on the table. The sampled output shows warm-neutral skin, a beige trench coat and brown wood at 0.25, 2.5 and 4.5 seconds. The person and main props remain broadly recognizable.
The downloaded MP4 measured 720 × 1280 and about 5.1 seconds. The source was 768 × 1344 and about 5.2 seconds; the result’s Details panel displayed 6 s. This was a generative reinterpretation with changed dimensions and duration. Three sampled moments do not establish perfect preservation or flicker-free playback.

How to colourise video with APOB AI
1. Choose an existing monochrome scene
Open an existing video in APOB and choose Edit video → Edit style. Start with one short, well-lit shot: our café scene has a visible face, coat, cup and envelope. These become review anchors. This test used a native existing-video action; external file upload compatibility was not established.

2. Describe colors and protected details
In Style description, request natural colorization and assign colors to specific objects: a beige coat, brown wood and an off-white cup. Ask to preserve the woman’s features, head turn, hand positions and framing. Specific instructions help define the intended edit; they cannot guarantee unchanged faces or motion.

3. Review settings and the credit quote
Our edit used Best and 720P; the screen quoted 36 credits/s and 180 credits total. APOB offers 80 free daily credits, so this example exceeded one daily allowance. For a café teaser, check the current quote, account access and balance before generating; additional credits may be needed.

4. Play, compare and download
Compare matching moments near the beginning, middle and end, then play the entire result. Watch the face, coat edges, cup handle and envelope for changes or color pulsing. Use Download, inspect the saved file’s dimensions and duration, and check audio separately before cutting the café scene into a teaser.

Compare source and result: 0.25 s, 2.5 s, 4.5 s
Why choose this video colorizer workflow?
Direct a palette around the story
Give the coat and café furniture separate color instructions instead of applying one global tint. A restrained palette can keep attention on the unopened envelope.
Review a result you can play and save
The tested route produced a downloadable MP4. Compare it with your source before committing it to an edit; an attractive still can hide motion defects.
See the cost before the next take
The visible quote lets you budget each attempt. Keep a narrow first brief so a revision targets one problem, such as an orange skin tone, instead of replacing the scene.
Colorization, color grading and historical truth
To colorize black and white video is to infer missing color information. Color grading adjusts an existing palette’s mood, contrast and balance. A monochrome image does not reveal the original fabric or paint color; a plausible beige coat is an interpretation, not historical evidence.
Choose this page for a creative color pass on a short scene. Use the separate AI Color Grading guide when you already have color and want a different treatment. Full-film restoration, damage repair and exact frame preservation were not validated here.
Use cases: colourise a scene with a clear purpose
A micro-drama creator’s alternate teaser
Rework your own monochrome café cliffhanger into a muted color version. Compare whether the face and unopened envelope still carry the same beat, then assemble a before/after teaser in your usual editor.
An indie director’s palette decision
Test a beige coat and cool rainy window on a fictional suspense shot before choosing a color direction. Show the team both versions and label the output as a concept, not a locked continuity reference.
A film educator’s color interpretation exercise
Use original or cleared footage to compare two plausible palettes. Ask students which details are observations and which are invented. Keep the monochrome source visible and label the colored version as AI-interpreted.
Vertical fiction is an active creator format: TikTok announced a creator-led micro-series partnership on October 14, 2026. That gives the teaser scenario context; it does not establish that colorization improves views or that APOB is affiliated with TikTok.
Expert prompts for video colourisation
These are adaptable prompt examples, not additional tested outputs. A request to preserve a detail remains something to verify.
Micro-drama creator: preserve the story beat
Purpose: a restrained café color pass. Expected direction: warm-neutral skin against a cool rainy exterior.
Colorize this existing black-and-white café scene with natural skin, dark brown hair, a muted beige coat, brown wood and an off-white cup. Keep the face, head turn, hands, envelope, framing and lighting as close to the source as possible. Request stable color throughout; no new objects, heavy tint or beauty retouching.
Indie director: keep an understated palette
Purpose: evaluate a costume palette. Expected direction: low-saturation scene color with readable materials.
Add plausible color to this monochrome suspense shot. Use a charcoal jacket, cream shirt and muted green walls. Preserve the actor’s features, blocking, props, grain and shadows as closely as possible. Avoid saturated highlights and added camera movement. Do not redesign the set.
Film educator: distinguish inference from fact
Purpose: demonstrate a hypothetical interpretation. Expected direction: a clearly reviewable creative variant.
Create a restrained color interpretation of this authorized black-and-white clip. Use natural skin and subdued clothing colors; keep people, objects and action close to the source. Do not invent signs or details. Avoid sepia. I will label this as AI-interpreted color, not recovered original color.
Pros and Cons
Object-specific direction
Describe skin, clothing and set colors separately.
Concrete output evidence
The tested short scene downloaded as a 720 × 1280 MP4.
Visible generation quote
Review the credit cost before submitting another attempt.
Details can drift
Faces, hands, props and timing need inspection; preservation is not exact.
Free allowance has limits
The 180-credit sample exceeded one 80-credit daily allowance.
Colors are inferred
Historical authenticity, long-film restoration and every-frame stability are not guaranteed.
Legal and Ethical Considerations
Use footage you own or are authorized to modify, and obtain explicit, verifiable consent when using a real person’s likeness. Old footage is not automatically public domain; source video, music and other assets may have separate rights.
Before commercial delivery, review APOB’s current terms and your plan permissions. Colorization does not clear third-party copyright or establish exclusive rights. Check visibility settings and privacy terms before using confidential client or family footage; this is a cloud workflow.
Label historical or educational examples as AI-interpreted color. Follow the destination’s current disclosure rules. YouTube distinguishes minor color adjustments from meaningful realistic alterations; assess the full clip, including any synthetic scene or changed action.

Colourise video FAQs
Credits, quality, source rights and export checks.
Is it free to colourise video?
APOB offers 80 free daily credits. Generation consumes credits, and the tested Best/720P edit cost 180. Check the current quote and plan access; one daily allowance did not cover this example.
Is this a separate colourisation model?
This page demonstrates colorization through Edit video → Edit style. It does not establish a separately named native video-colorizer model.
Can I upload any black-and-white file?
The verified route selected an existing APOB video. External file uploads, supported codecs and upload limits were not tested; check the current app before preparing a large file.
Will faces and motion stay identical?
No exact match is promised. Compare eyes, hair, hands, movement, props and framing against the source, and reject changes that affect the story.
Can AI recover historically accurate colors?
It infers plausible colors from grayscale information and your instructions. Verify historical colors independently and label uncertain interpretations.
How can I check color flicker?
Compare matched frames near the start, middle and end, then watch the entire clip. Look for skin or clothing hues pulsing, edge halos and changes during head turns.
What resolution and duration will I download?
Our result was a 720 × 1280 MP4 of about 5.1 seconds; Details showed 6 s. The source was about 5.2 seconds at 768 × 1344. Inspect each download instead of assuming unchanged size or timing.
Can I colorize an entire film?
This test covered one short shot. Feature-length processing, batch restoration and damaged-film repair were not validated. Plan shot-by-shot review and finishing separately.
Will the original sound be preserved?
Audio preservation was not verified. Listen to the saved file and compare its timing with the source before publishing or adding a licensed soundtrack.
Can I use the result commercially?
Check your plan, current APOB terms, source footage rights, music rights and likeness permissions. A generated color pass does not provide missing third-party permissions.
Are my clips private and watermark-free?
Check your account’s visibility and download settings. Nano’s free downloads have a watermark; private generation and watermark removal depend on plan features. Review the privacy policy before using sensitive footage.
Can I use the export on TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts?
Prepare the saved MP4 in your usual editor, then check the platform’s current dimensions, duration, codec and disclosure rules. Native posting integrations and automatic platform approval were not established.
