Adobe’s current Firefly documentation describes a unified generation-and-editing workspace and a browser timeline editor in Beta. Instead of treating that as a feature-list victory, give the workspace one fixed 30-minute job and count the edit debt it leaves behind.

Input mix

Freeze four inputs: one six-second product clip, one eight-second presenter clip, one still image for a generated insert, and one approved audio bed. Keep originals untouched. Record dimensions, frame rate, audio channels, color profile if known, and the right to use every asset.

Adobe’s generation and editing experience overview defines the current official workflow boundary. Treat anything not described there as unverified until the interface shows it in your account.

Target cut

Thirty-minute deadline

Start the clock at first import and stop it when an acceptable delivery file and handoff packet exist. Pause only for a documented service outage. Log active editing, waiting, troubleshooting, and external work separately.

Exit requirement

Define what “continue elsewhere” means: a rendered master, source files, caption text, audio stems where available, prompt/model notes, and enough timing information to rebuild the sequence. A flattened export may satisfy delivery but not editability.

The Adobe Firefly “What’s new” page labels the video editor Beta. Date your observations and expect the interface to change. Capture one screenshot at import, first assembled cut, generated insert, caption review, and export.

Media import

Import the fixed pack without transcoding it first. Record unsupported media, unexpected conversion, missing audio, orientation changes, and upload wait. The first handoff point is complete only when every source is identifiable on the timeline.

Generated insert

Create one two-to-four-second insert from the approved still and prompt. Save the exact prompt, model label, duration, aspect ratio, and rejected attempts. If generation happens outside the timeline, count the context switch and re-import.

Measure edit debt across six operations

Edit debt is the work left after an operation appears complete. Count it in minutes and unresolved defects. A glossy final frame cannot cancel caption drift or an export another editor cannot reopen.

Trim debt

Make one ripple trim and one precise cut. Record snapping errors, accidental gaps, audio discontinuity, and whether the action can be undone without damaging later edits. Debt is the recovery time plus any residue accepted into the deliverable.

Caption debt

Generate or import captions, correct three known words, and inspect line breaks in the 9:16 safe area. Count transcription corrections, timing fixes, style repairs, and overflow. Audio and color debt

Stress-test exit and portability

Do not wait for a cancelled subscription, missing teammate, or deadline to discover that the project cannot travel. Test the exit while every source and decision is still available.

Export formats

List only formats your account actually offers. Export the delivery master and, if available, any alternate needed by the finishing workflow. Verify the downloaded files rather than trusting the export dialog.

Relinking

Rename one local source copy and test how the project indicates missing media. Record whether you can locate, replace, or relink the asset without losing edits. If relinking is unavailable, document the rebuild procedure.

Metadata and provenance

Preserve source filenames, licensing notes, prompts, model labels, generation dates, caption text, and edit decisions. Check what travels inside the file and what needs a separate manifest. Do not claim a provenance standard unless the exported file inspection confirms it.

Reopen and editability

Close the browser, reopen the project, and verify timeline order, trims, text, audio, and generated asset references. Then ask a second team member to interpret the handoff packet. Run the fixed brief once in the team’s current editor and once through APOB-supported creation plus the candidate workspace. The better route is the one with less unresolved debt for the named role. A beautiful playback is welcome, but the decision also has to survive tomorrow’s handoff.

Before team adoption, repeat the browser based video editing test in a clean profile. Note the operating system, browser version, network, storage, and extensions. That separates workspace behavior from a damaged local session without exposing credentials in the evidence packet.
